Simultaneously supports full native resolution on the built-in display at millions of colors and:

Speakers are also improved, with a definite increase in bass and loudness. Using Blackmagic’s Disk Speed Test, we found a new SSD model, at least a 256GB version, writing at 680.8MB / s and reading at 2245.9MB / s, more or less equivalent to last year’s base model. This new quad-core CPU is clearly stronger than the previous MacBook Pro processor so it will draw more battery power. To ensure uniform battery power, Apple increased the battery size by 18 percent from last year’s Touch Bar model.

To graphical performance, the GPU has been upgraded from Intel Iris Plus 650 to 655 and seeing the OpenCL test score, there seems to be no huge difference between the two integrated chips. Running the same test on our 13-inch base model in 2017, which has the Iris Plus 640 chip, there are some improvements, but to be honest it’s not that much, with scores of 30,983 and 32,831, respectively. However, our 15-inch MacBook Pro score of 48,081 is much higher than the new 13-inch model.

Perhaps more impressive, the new 13-inch outperformed the MacBook Pro 2016 with Intel 2.9GHz Core i7, which produced a score of 4,360 and 11,979.

In Geekbench 4, laptops print 4,602 for single core and 16,699 for multi-core, which is a big upgrade compared to last year’s model. In comparison, the 2017 MacBook Pro 13 inch without Touch Bar includes a single score and multi-core 4.5 respectively. This year’s 13-inch MacBook Pro is the first to be powered by a quad-core CPU. Our test rig is a basic model that runs the 8th generation Intel Core i5 processor at 2.3GHz with impressive 3.8GHz speed improvements.

Moving on, our 2018 MacBook Pro comes with Touch Bar and Touch ID, the latter being convenient for entering and buying items online using Apple Pay. It also comes with Apple’s T2 chip, which basically combines several system controllers into one and for the first time brings “Hey Siri” to a new MacBook.Īfter a quick setup procedure that asks the user to read a sentence, we test Hey Siri by asking a few questions. Performance is similar to iOS, with excellent voice recognition and fast results. Hey, Siri will become stronger after the Mojave MacOS sees the release because the upcoming operating system integrates control over the HomeKit device through the Home application.Īnother new feature is the True Tone, which measures ambient light to adjust the color on the screen. The 2018 MacBook Pro is the first Mac to get features and function as advertised. When activated, the white balance adjusts to make the image on the screen appear more natural to the environment around the laptop. Usually, users will see warmer display colors, even though the results can vary depending on your specific lighting settings. However, we have to wait and see if the new keyboard is more reliable than the previous version. Whether major design changes including increased reliability are unknown, and Apple doesn’t talk much about it. The company said the main complaint from customers was keyboard noise, not an operation failure that gave rise to several class action suits. For its part, Apple maintains only a small percentage of users affected by the main problem.
